Yang Lan is considered one of China’s most successful entrepreneurs. At the age of twenty-one, she was selected as host of China’s Zheng Da Variety Show on China Central Television. Within a year of its inception, the celebrity show became China’s top-rated TV program. Despite her initial success and celebrity status, Yang left the show after four years to earn a master’s degree from Columbia University’s School of International & Public affairs. In 1999, she founded the media company, Sun Television Cyber Networks (Sun TV) with her husband Bruno Wu Zheng. Recently, Yang has been designated by the Chinese Environmental Awareness Program as an official Environmental Ambassador for its national and local campaigns, drawing on her popularity and influence to mobilize public interest for the protection of the environment.
