Peter Head CBE is a distinguished world leader in sustainable urban development. A Civil and Structural Engineer, Head joined Arup in 2004 to create and, subsequently, lead the planning and integrated urbanism team, which addresses the need for the public and private sector to adopt sustainable development principles. He has since been named Project Director of Dongtan eco-city in Shanghai, and the Wanzhuang eco-city near Beijing. In 2008, Head was nominated as one of 30 global eco-heroes by Time magazine. He was also awarded the Sir Frank Whittle Medal by the Royal Academy of Engineering for his global environmental efforts, and received an honorary doctorate in engineering from Bristol University. Head serves as Strategic Advisor to the Climate Leadership Group and the Clinton Carbon Positive Program.
He received a CBE for services to civil engineering and the environment in 2011.
