As Senior Vice President and Fashion Director of Barneys New York, Julie Gilhart has inspired many designers to develop and adapt sustainable fashion products. In 2007, Gilhart spearheaded the development of an eco-friendly design collection exclusively for Barneys New York, and was instrumental in the creation of the company’s holiday campaign ‘Have a Green Holiday’. In addressing the need for sustainable design practices in the fashion industry, she continues to raise the awareness of manufacturers, designers, and consumers alike. Gilhart seeks to create a new paradigm of how the fashion business operates with the goal to reduce its impact on the environment and to create a more eco-conscious consumer behavior.
