The task of the Earth Awards Selection Committee is to identify viable innovations which have the potential to improve and transform our lives. The Future category looks at concepts, research and trends as well as prototypes on the horizon that have demonstrable benefits for our society and the environment.

The category is not restrictive and has a broad remit, ranging from alternative energies to transport and biochemistry. Although not readily implementable, project submissions will be grounded in pioneering academic and scientific studies that will provide the framework for a new generation of advanced designs and technologies.
