Built Environment

The Built Environment category covers the design and engineering process of buildings, structures and spaces.

The Award places particular emphasis on the environmental impact of submitted projects, from both an ecological and societal perspective. While overall design aesthetics are implicit to the ultimate success of any construction, Selection Committee look for examples that significantly reduce the ecological footprint through the use of innovative materials, reuse, sourcing and waste management. In addition, project submissions should have a positive impact on the lives of those who come into regular contact with them.

A key remit of this category is to encourage architects and designers to challenge conventional construction methods in ways that affect positive change.
