Founder and CEO, Virgin Group
With more than 200 companies in over 30 countries, Richard Branson has created one of the most successful global franchises in history. Founded in 1970, the Virgin Group covers areas ranging from air travel to mobile communication, hotels, and finance. Branson has been widely recognized for his services to entrepreneurship, and, in recent years, has dedicated most of his time to finding solutions for our global environmental and social challenges. In 2006, he pledged to invest all profits from Virgin’s transportation companies into clean technologies. Branson has also helped incubate global initiatives such as the Disease Control Room, a new health resource response system for South Africa, and the Carbon War Room to improve international collaboration on climate change.
